Food bank Donation at The Open Window Hub, Mississauga Central Library
Supporting the Open Window Hub at Mississauga Central Library
I had the privilege of purchasing and donating 300+ food items and essential supplies to the Open Window Hub at the Mississauga Central Library. The Hub supports residents experiencing homelessness and community members in need. As the founder of Erindale Social Impact, this effort built on our successful We Scare Hunger drive and a student-led campaign at school. Huge thanks to Khadija for transportation support and to Kevin at the Hub for coordinating the drop-off.
What We Donated
- Non-perishable foods (assorted canned goods and snacks)
- Everyday essentials (toiletries, toothbrushes, hygiene items)
- Additional supplies requested by the Hub
How We Organized It
Our council planned the campaign, promoted it in classes and online, collected items over multiple weeks, and coordinated delivery to the library. Student volunteers helped sort, count, and pack donations to ensure they matched the Hub’s immediate needs.
Impact
These items will be distributed directly by the Open Window Hub to clients who visit the library for support, helping to reduce food insecurity and meet urgent daily needs.
How You Can Help
- Organize a classroom, club, or workplace drive for shelf-stable foods and hygiene items.
- Contact your local library/community hub to ask about current high-need items.
- Spread the word so more neighbours can contribute.
